Walking the Path to Freedom

It’s not just about playing guitar. It’s about returning to something real. Each chord you learn, each song you play, each moment you commit to the strings—that’s a step forward.

Living your moment

Living your moment through music means putting the phone down, picking the guitar up, and playing something real — even if it’s messy. It’s about showing up, tuning in — and trusting that today’s effort matters. When you live your moment, you stop chasing and start expressing. Every note becomes a reflection of who you are — right now.

Learning from others

Every guitarist you meet knows something you don’t. Learning from others means listening more than you speak. It’s sitting with someone else’s story — their style, their struggle — and letting it shape your own. You’ll pick up licks and life lessons. You’ll remember: freedom isn’t a solo act — it’s a shared rhythm.

“I traded the noise of the world for the sound of six strings — and somewhere along the way, I found myself again.” – Mark "Freebeard" Thomsen Founder, Six Strings to Freedom

ABOUT US

About

My name is Mark, and this project is personal.

For years, I chased success the way the world told me to — through work, status, and sacrifice. But somewhere along the way, I left music behind.

I used to be the best High School tuba player in the state of Arizona. I had a scholarship. A future in it.

Then life happened — promotions, responsibilities, routines — and music faded to the background.

Now, decades later, I’ve picked up the guitar… and I’m starting over.

Six Strings to Freedom is my journey to reclaim something I never should’ve let go of: Joy. Creativity. Presence. Purpose.

This space was built to share that journey — and to help you start (or restart) your own.

Because it’s never too late to play again.
And freedom? It might just be waiting on the other side of your next chord.
